Do I need to create an account?

No. Watchtower has no accounts, no sign-in, and no backend server of its own. Everything runs on your device.

Does Watchtower work without an internet connection?

No — Watchtower fetches live public data (flights, ships, satellites, weather, news, markets, radio) over the internet each time you use it. It does not run its own servers; your device talks directly to the public data providers listed on the Sources page.

Is my location shared with anyone?

Location access is optional and only used to centre the globe on you and show what's nearby. It is processed on your device and is not uploaded to us, because we have no server to upload it to. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture, including which specific public data requests include your coordinates.

What are "bring your own API keys"?

Some AI-powered features (explanations, briefings, the "Ask" assistant) are optional and need an API key from a provider of your choice — for example OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, Groq, Mistral, or OpenRouter. You get that key directly from the provider and paste it into Watchtower's settings. The app is fully usable without one. Your key is stored only on your device, and when you use an AI feature, your prompt goes straight from your phone to the provider you chose — it never passes through us. How do I delete my data?

Because everything is stored on your device and nowhere else, deleting your data is entirely in your hands:

Clear one thing: remove a saved API key, custom feed, or preference from within the app's settings.
Clear everything: uninstall the app, or clear its storage/cache from your phone's system settings (Android: Settings → Apps → Watchtower → Storage → Clear data; iOS: delete the app). This removes all locally stored data immediately.

There is no account or server-side copy of your data for us to delete, because none is ever created.

How do I report something wrong or offensive I saw in the app?

Watchtower aggregates content from third-party public sources, including news wires, social feeds (Reddit, Bluesky, Telegram), and — if you add your own key — AI-generated explanations. We don't control or moderate that upstream content, but we want to know if something is broken, misleading, or offensive:

Use the in-app Report button where available (on AI answers and news items) — it opens a pre-filled email to us with the context attached.
Or email hello@sleepingiantmarketing.com directly with a screenshot and what you saw.

For content that originates from a specific provider (a news wire, Reddit, Bluesky, Telegram, or an AI provider's model), we'll also point you to that provider's own reporting channel where relevant.

Is Watchtower a news app?

Watchtower aggregates headlines and public feeds from many independent, credited sources alongside its other data layers (flights, ships, satellites, hazards, markets, radio) — it does not publish its own original news reporting. Every headline links back to its original publisher, and the full list of sources and their licences is on the Sources page.

Is this financial, safety, or navigation advice?

No. Markets data, hazard layers, and AI-generated text are for general information only. Please read the important limits in our Terms of Use before relying on anything you see in the app for a real decision.

Watchtower is built to work with screen readers and system text-size settings, and respects your device's Reduce Motion setting throughout the app and on this website. If something doesn't work well with your assistive technology, please tell us — we want to fix it.
